We are proud to have contributed to the energy supply in the MENA Region and especially in Egypt throughout the last decades. And we intend to continue on this path in the years to come.

At the EGYPS 2023, we are taking visitors on a brief journey through time. Our history in the MENA region began in Libya in 1958 and was solidified in Egypt in 1974.

But as precious as our history is to us, our future is even more important. We are currently supporting the growing region through the discovery of new gas fields, most recently in Egypt. But we are also actively looking for future opportunities in the field of low-carbon energies in North Africa. As a first step, we have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) to explore opportunities in the areas of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and natural gas-based low-carbon hydrogen.

We have been a partner in Egypt for almost 50 years. Today our focus is on natural gas. The West Nile Delta project, for example, is one of the largest projects where our company is involved. It consists of five gas fields with 25 producing wells. Recently we also made a natural gas discovery in the East Damanhour exploration block, which we were awarded in 2019. While the country is a natural gas powerhouse today, it has the potential to grow in low-carbon energy solutions in the future. Egypt is well-positioned to serve as an energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Algeria is the leading natural gas producer in Africa and the third largest exporter to Europe. It is also a prime candidate for an enhanced energy partnership. The country has significant untapped natural gas reserves, and great potential for low-carbon hydrogen, solar and wind power, as well as for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). We are continuing to explore new opportunities in the field of gas production and low-carbon energy solutions.

Our story in the MENA region started in Libya. We have been active in crude oil exploration and production in the country since 1958. Since 2011, all activities have been affected by the difficult political situation in the country. We are monitoring the situation very closely and hope that the stabilisation process is continuing. Meanwhile, the safety of our employees and their families is our highest priority.

With some of the world’s largest oil and gas reserves, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) form a globally important centre for energy supply. Our activities there started in 2010. Since 2018, we have been working closely on the Ghasha mega-project. Whether it comes to drilling technology, demanding wells, safely producing sour gas, or knowing what matters in ecologically sensitive areas: We bring advanced technical expertise to the UAE.
