  • Partner to ADNOC for major Ghasha concession project
  • Middle East set for further growth
  • CEO Mario Mehren to participate in one of ADIPEC’s Global Business Leaders panels

Wintershall Dea, Europe’s leading independent gas and oil company is participating in the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition Conference (ADIPEC), held on November 11th – 14th, at ADNEC. Located at stand 6352, Wintershall Dea will highlight the company’s activities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the cutting-edge technologies and ‘Made in Germany’ engineering expertise that it applies in Abu Dhabi and worldwide.

“We are pleased to be at one of the most influential events of the industry once again”, said Mario Mehren, CEO of Wintershall Dea. “Since last year’s event, we’ve shown our commitment to the Middle East region by acquiring a stake in the Ghasha concession, the largest gas and condensate fields yet to be developed in the United Arab Emirates.” Wintershall Dea holds a ten per cent stake in the concession for a term of 40 years, alongside ADNOC (55%), ENI (25%), OMV (5%) and Lukoil (5%).

Ghasha is a project that plays to Wintershall Dea’s strengths. “It’s a complex asset, involving ultra-sour gas fields in a sensitive marine environment”, says Mehren. “We are bringing all of our expertise to the table, from our digitalization knowledge, to our forty-year heritage of safe sour-gas production in Germany.”

Middle East: a new core region for Wintershall Dea

Wintershall Dea has been active in the UAE since 2010, and the country has become a growth area for the German E&P company. Helge Beuthan, Managing Director of Wintershall Dea in Abu Dhabi, explains: “Through our investments we intend to establish a strong and long-lasting presence in Abu Dhabi in partnership with ADNOC.” The Ghasha concession will not only support Wintershall Dea’s plans for growth but will also have a major impact in the UAE. “Building up production from the fields of the Ghasha concession will help secure a sustainable gas supply for the United Arab Emirates, fuelling its future economy”, says Beuthan.

ADIPEC’s Global Business Leaders panels

Wintershall Dea’s CEO, Mario Mehren, will also take part in one of ADIPEC’s Global Business Leaders panel sessions, on the theme “New strategies to accelerate the industry’s response to environmental pressures”. The session is scheduled for Tuesday 12th November 2019, 14:30 at the ICC Hall.

Considered as one of the top international oil and gas exhibitions, ADIPEC is set to host over 2,200 exhibiting companies, and welcome more than 145,000 visitors from across the globe.
