  • Traditional donation to charitable and social institutions
  • Help for the homeless in Kassel and Hamburg
  • Foundation supports young artists with music scholarships

This year, Wintershall Dea is once again supporting social, charitable and cultural projects with its traditional annual donation, including at the company’s respective bases in Kassel and Hamburg. The donations amount to more than 50,000 euros.

This year the donations in the social sphere are focusing on three organisations that support homeless people in emergency situations. This is because the current pandemic is placing them in even greater need than they already are.

“As a company, we bear responsibility not only for our colleagues, but also for the people in our community. We bear a social responsibility and do our bit to help. There are many charitable organisations that do considerable work in the social sphere. However, they often have limited financial resources available to them. That’s why we’re delighted that we can help some of them,” says Mario Mehren, CEO of Wintershall Dea.

Wintershall Dea is also committed to helping the homeless outside the Christmas season. For example, meals are regularly donated to the Alimaus daycare centre run by the St. Ansgar relief organisation in Hamburg.

Wintershall Dea is now supporting these social and charitable institutions in Kassel and Hamburg with a total of 25,000 euros:

Panama daycare centre /Soziale Hilfe e.V. (Kassel): As part of the Soziale Hilfe e.V. association, Panama provides a drop-in centre for single, homeless and socially disadvantaged people. The association offers assistance to those seeking help, including help in finding accommodation and dealing with the authorities, and provides basic care for people living on the street. In order to maintain these services, the day-care centre in Kassel is receiving 10,000 euros.

Hanseatic Help e.V. (Hamburg): Founded in 2015 as a response to the streams of refugees, the association now supports not only refugees but also homeless people and other fellow human beings with donations in kind, and assists social organisations with donation logistics. In addition to providing the needy with clothing and hygiene articles, the organisation is also involved, for example, in building containers for homeless people. Wintershall Dea is supporting the association with 12,000 euros.

Kemenate Frauen Wohnen e.V. (Hamburg): Since the end of the 1980s, Kemenate has offered women in need refuge and support in all situations. The day centre enables the women to carry out everyday tasks and household chores, and provides advice in emergency situations. Kemenate is receiving a donation of 3,000 euros.

Music scholarships totalling 27,000 euros

Further donations are being made for music scholarships as part of the Germany Scholarship. Music scholarships are awarded to students and artists at the art academies in Kassel, Hamburg and Weimar. The Germany Scholarship is the largest public-private scheme in the educational field that exists in Germany. Since 2011, it has been supporting talented young people throughout Germany with 300 euros a month. Wintershall Dea is participating through the DEA Music Foundation Norway and will be supporting up to 15 young musicians in Hamburg, Kassel and Weimar with a total of 27,000 euros next year. The scholarships are awarded to international young artists and German students with a migration background.

“One focus of our social engagement is on education, science and culture. Here we feel an obligation to support people and give them opportunities,” says Mario Mehren. “That’s why I’m delighted that we’re able to support some of them this year, which has also been a very challenging year for creative people and artists.”

Note to editors: Depending on the Corona situation, the donations will be presented in Kassel and Hamburg in January 2021. The exact planning will be announced shortly before hand.
